DNS as a transmitter of culture
DNS with its teachers and students create its own culture inspired by the large questions surrounding us.
It touches the soul of the DNS-student to learn about the grave contradictions of the world and to place herself into the equation as an active part. This is made possible by the collective experiences of the team and the attention paid to the many acts of daily life.
What does it mean to do good? What is a good comrade? When am I looking only from my own interests and when am I motivated by the needs of others? Is happiness the product of doing good? What does it mean to listen to others?
These are just a few examples of questions that have inspired and also inspire togetherness and culture of standing together.
There are endless borders, walls, fences and mental boundaries that divide the people of our world.
DNS acts as if there is only One World. The students at DNS take the role as citizens of the world as they travel, go to new places, work with people of different back grounds, discuss global issues and consider how we can better the conditions of humanity.
DNS cuts across actual and artificial borders between people, between cultures and within cultures, classes, language groups and spiritual beliefs. Doing so, the DNS-student convey the DNS culture of openness and inclusiveness and the belief in the possibility of a better world.
The past will not return. We must live fully now, so that we can build a better future for humanity. The world would be a much better place if a large proportion of the young people all over the world participated in DNS or development instructor programs along the principles and humanistic philosophies of DNS and DRH.
